MMK 80.2 million raised via SaiSai Pay by uab bank and other partners for Covid-19 relief funds

Yangon, 22nd May 2020 – uab bank, Myanmar’s Best Bank by Euromoney, announced today that MMK 80.2 million in donations was collected during the activities conducted together with the recently launched SaiSai Pay app and these were donated to the COVID-19 relief funds of three (3) different beneficiaries.
SaiSai Pay which was launched on 4th April 2020 by renowned Myanmar Celebrity Sai Sai Kham Leng in partnership with uab bank, is the First Celebrity App with the aim of creating a digital lifestyle ecosystem to support the local music & film industry.

As their first charity project, funds were raised towards Myanmar’s COVID-19 efforts. This effort was highlighted during the popular annual “Sai Sai Birthday Show” which was broadcasted free on the SaiSai Pay app. During the broadcast, all app users were encouraged to donate to support COVID-19 relief efforts.

Funds were raised over a two-week period with peak donations during the live broadcast of the Sai Sai Birthday Show. The total amount of 80.2 million was donated to three (3) beneficiaries namely; Ministry of Health and Sports (MMK 30 million), COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee (MMK 30 million) and Yangon Regional Government Office (MMK 19.74 million). The balance sum of donations will be allocated soon to a similar project.

The donations made to the Ministry of Health and Sports and the COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee was used for the COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment activities, whilst a mechanical ventilator was purchased and installed at the Phaung Gyi Quarantine Centre as donation for the Yangon Regional Government Office.

Christopher Loh, MD & CEO of uab bank commented, “We are excited to see the success of SaiSai Pay and the enthusiasm of all the users in joining hands to raise funds and help fight the pandemic. It is our goal to help Myanmar overcome COVID-19 and do good for the Myanmar people. Demonstrating our dedication to leading change and humanising banking, we are honoured to enable and facilitate SaiSai Pay for this cause.”
