Press Release

uab bank named ‘Myanmar’s Best Bank’ by Euromoney

Myanmar 29th July 2019 – In a first, uab bank overtook larger and more established banks to be named ‘Myanmar’s Best Bank’ by Euromoney. In its 50th Year, Euromoney is the leading publication covering the growth of international finance. The Euromoney Awards for Excellence are recognised as one of the most prestigious in the financial services industry and are coveted by banks and bankers alike.

Further to being named ‘Myanmar’s Best Bank’ at the prestigious Euromoney award event in Hong Kong on 16th July 2019, uab bank was crowned the ‘Domestic Retail Bank of the Year’ by Asian Banking & Finance (ABF) on 18th July 2019, another established publication that recognises outstanding Asian banks.

In September 2017, uab bank started the journey to remake and transform the Bank into a modern leading financial institution in Myanmar. Against an increasingly complex regulatory landscape, the Bank began restructuring by improving the governance structure, optimising its balance sheet, maximising revenue streams, reducing cost and deepening its talent pool.

Commenting on the two (2) awards, uab bank CEO Christopher Loh said,

“We are honoured to receive the awards and these international recognitions come soon after our achievement of being No. 1 in Corporate Governance in the 2019 TiME Pwint Thit Sa Report by Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business, a leading body in promoting corporate transparency and disclosure in Myanmar.

Together these accomplishments at Euromoney, ABF and Pwint Thit Sa are recognition of our ongoing commitment to change and our redefined purpose of “leading the way towards a better Myanmar, humanising banking, connecting people, creating opportunities and changing lives”
